Biotechnology

Biotechnology is a broad term for a group of technologies based on the application of biological processes. It is used to make or modify foodstuffs and medicines, reduce wastes and environmental impacts and create renewable energy sources. Modern biotechnology is the term used to describe a range of processes and techniques especially at the molecular level. Examples of biotechnology applications of particular interest to the department include cell culture, genomics, molecular marker-assisted breeding, cloning, bioprocessing and diagnostic testing as well as gene technology (genetic modification).
Nepal is rich in natural resources and we had many things to creep into for research and sure biotechnology will help us in identifying, understanding and utilizing flora and fauna. So there lies vast scope of biotech in Nepal. Though it’s been long we are familiar with biotechnology but still more practices, research must be done to get deep into it. Most of applied practices abroad are still scope for us. For instance: India and China, Nepal’s two neighbors have not only invested heavily on biotechnology industry (including research and development) but have also benefited from those investments. Both these countries have clearly seen the benefits of biotechnology to humans, animals and the environment in the future and are now actively engaging in research and development towards new products and technologies for the future. Youths in the biotechnology sector should watch both these giants closely and extract information from both, so that same can be applied to Nepal. We also need to utilize many natural resources with biotechnology; we had got double duty to do on. Sure, we will change the scope of biotech and our tomorrow will be better with biotech. There is no doubt that biotechnology will play a major role in Nepal’s economy in the future.

Change their world. Change Yours.
